STOMP OUT STROKES
"Stroke is the 5th leading cause of death in the United States and is a major cause of serious disability for adults."
What is a stroke?
A CVA, also known as a stroke, is a dangerous disease that generally affects our elderly population and can have devastating effects on their quality of life. According to the American Stroke Association, strokes are the 5th leading cause of death and the number 1 leading cause of long-term disability in America. Awareness of this disease is important so you can react in a timely manner if you or someone you know does begin to experience symptoms. According to the CDC, patients who are treated quickly for stroke, less than 3 hours, have less long-term disabilities compared to those with delayed care.

About FPL
The UCR FPL program was created in 2009 by Dr. Raul Ruiz, emergency physician, in the hopes of giving students the guidance and preparing them to pursue a career in medicine. The FPL program brings students from different counties together and works with them on bringing awareness to the diseases that plague the areas they live in. The program provides year-round opportunities for its members, allowing participation in community events and health discussions in hopes of creating the new physician leaders of our future communities.
